The Carman Collegiate girls’ golf team finished second at last week’s Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association golf provincials at the Pleasant Valley Golf Club near Killarney.
The Carman girl’s golf team includes Grade 12 students, India Young, Keira Krahn, Sara Gross and Shaela Hayward. They qualified for the provincials after the school team took home the Zone IV banner for the sixth year in a row. Girls Team:
At the Provincials, the four players shoot an 18-hole round. At the end of the round, they tally up the team’s top three of four players and make the final standings from there.
India Young led the way with a 77, while Keira Krahn shot an 87. Sara Gross had 115 on the day, and Shaela Hayward finished with 123. The team’s scores were good for a second-place finish at the provincials.
College Jeanne Sauve finished first with 278 points and Swan Valley finished third with 289.
“The provincials were great,” said Young. “I think we were all trying to enjoy our last high school tournament. We really wanted to get a provincial golf banner for the school after coming in third the last two years.”
Golf season has wrapped up for Young, Krahn and Hayward, as the trio will shift their focus to curling as they play on one of Manitoba’s top junior teams with Team Shaela Hayward.
