History and community spirit at the Dufferin Historical Museum

Date:

The Dufferin Historical Museum will be open to the public from Wednesday, June 26, until the end of August. It will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, staffed by Adam or Riley, our summer administrators for this year. The museum will also be open on Sundays, staffed by volunteers, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Get ready for a quacking good time at the 2nd Annual Duck Race renovation fundraiser, to be held on Wednesday, July 10 at 7 p.m. on 1st Avenue N.W. Ducks are selling quickly, and if you haven’t purchased a duck in the race, they are available at the museum or from various board members

Unleash your creativity and share your unique perspective on our community’s history. We will participate in the Carman Fair this year,  showcasing our Bale Decorating entry.

According to vice-president Lori Keith, the museum will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall and an entry in the parade.

“We have also sponsored a writing competition in the Exhibit Hall. We would love to see your original historical non fiction (factual) story (200 to 500 words maximum) about a person, building, or event in the Carman/Dufferin Community area. There is a competition in the Adult, 60 +, 70+ and Under 18 category.  Check out the Exhibit Book for the category details,” said Keith.

Your story could be the next chapter in the community’s history.

Thanks to the Carman Area Foundation, we will have a new sign built this summer. This sign will also have a bulletin board for us to post information about the various artifacts on the Museum grounds.

We have many souvenirs for sale and hope to have some new items ready soon.

If anyone is interested in volunteering, there are several opportunities. We can use volunteers to help us staff our booth at the Carman Fair, help out with the Duck Race, and to operate the museum on Sundays.   We try to pair new volunteers with our current volunteers. It is a great way to learn about the museum and to meet new people in the area.

The Dufferin Historial Museum is celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2024, and the board is highlighting artifacts throughout the museum that were donated to the Dufferin Historical Society in the early years and formed the basis for the museum. Come and see what the museum started with and how it has grown to over 6,000 artifacts.
