Manitobans are being encouraged by Riding Mountain MLA Greg Nesbitt to share their designs for the upcoming Manitoba parks specialty licence plate.
“Manitoba is home to some of Canada’s most beautiful parks and many incredible artists,” said Nesbitt. “This is an exciting first step in a collaborative process to create what will surely be Canada’s most beautiful licence plate.”
The creation of specialty licence plates was made possible by Bill 211, which received Royal Assent in June and was sponsored by Nesbitt. These plates will help raise funds for Manitoba’s Provincial Parks Endowment Funds, a program established in 2021 to encourage philanthropic donations and honor the desires of donors who wish to support the province’s parks for generations to come.
Interlake-Gimli MLA Derek Johnson is hoping that some of our fantastic and talented artists in the constituency submit a design.
“This is a great opportunity for our local artists,” said Johnson.
Annually, these funds contribute up to $1 million towards enhancing the visitor experience through various local projects. These projects may include improving trails, increasing accessibility, constructing new playgrounds, restoring habitats, preserving cultural sites, and supporting other vital park infrastructure.
According to Nesbitt, a range of mediums can be used to create the artwork for the specialty plates. These options include photography, graphic design, paintings, or a blend of styles.
Nesbitt says he is committed to working with Manitoba Public Insurance, stakeholders, and the public to launch the new licence plates in time for the 2025 camping and summer tourism season.
