Lightning 50/50 draw reached $125,055

Date:

For the first time ever, Interlake Lightning teams joined forces to run an online 50/50.

Each of the seven Lightning teams had a fundraising goal. Individuals simply chose a specific Interlake Lightning team that they wanted to benefit from their purchase.

“The U17 team did this last year and it was successful for the team,” said Tanya Swanson. “I was approached by a parent to see if I was interested in helping do this for all of the teams. I worked with Jason Cassils and we worked together on this.”

The fundraiser started in November, was made Jan. 9, and reached a whopping $125,055. That’s a lot of cash.

“The amount (raised) was so much fun to watch it grow,” Swanson said. “We actually broke a record for sales in a 24-hour period   that the platform has ever seen. It was very exciting.”

Teams will use the money raised for a variety of reasons.

Stacey Goodwill was the lucky winner and there is a good possibility that the 50/50 will be done again next year.

“I think due to the success, it is something that we are absolutely going to consider for next year,” Swanson said. “A special thanks to everyone who supported the 50/50 – all of the teams, parents, and family members that shared their links. That’s the reason it was so successful.”

Teams that benefited from the fundraiser included U13 AA female ($23,865), U15 AAA male ($22,970), U15 AAA female ($21,880), U15 AAA male ($16,055), U17 AAA male ($11,340), U18 AAA female ($10,130), and U15 AA male ($8,985).
