Silver and Gary Peltier’s Make-A-Wish/Ride for a Child’s Wish campaign kicked off on July 25 with an exquisite five-course outdoor dinner at their scenic farm south of Woodlands.
Their son, Dustin Peltier, the culinary maestro behind Loaf and Honey, crafted each dish with precision and love. Guests indulged in delightful creations like Beet Napoleon paired with roasted garlic ricotta and sunflower brittle drizzled with ginger-orange sauce.

The menu featured marinated cucumber salad topped with lemon basil dressing and a delectable fish roulade featuring Arctic char, tuna, pickerel, and sugar snap peas. Pork tenderloin and savory mushrooms in red wine demi rounded out the main course.
Poached rhubarb served alongside summer savoury ice cream balanced this gourmet feast. The event raised over $2,000, adding to the astounding total of more than $1.7 million raised over three decades.
The Peltier farm transforms into a hub of hope and joy each year during the Make a Wish/Ride for a Child’s Wish event. This gathering is more than just an outing; it’s a full day filled with activities that bring smiles to the faces of young and old.
Guests can take part in scenic trail rides on horseback or horse-drawn wagon journeys. There is also a motorcycle ride for those who choose to take a ride on the open highway. Children are entertained with fun activities designed just for them, and there is a very large wish auction.
As night falls, attendees enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and a lively barn dance. The heart of this event lies in its mission: raising funds to fulfill wishes for kids battling critical illnesses in Manitoba.
Currently, 60 children await their dreams to come true. Nuala Nazarko, Chapter Director, Manitoba & Nunavut from Make-A-Wish Canada emphasizes how vital these wishes are for families facing tough times. “A wish is such an uplifting part of a child’s treatment journey,” she said. “When children are granted their wish, it replaces sadness with joy and creates hope that anything is possible.”
Be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, August 24, and check out the 34th Ride for a Child’s Wish. The lineup features entertainment by Prairieline, a band known for their captivating performances and there is a tentative guest appearance from a former wish recipient.
