Every child matters

Date:

Gimli Red River Metis celebrated the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation last Saturday. The RM of Gimli Every Child Matters ceremony featured Indigenous drumming, stories, bonfires and a performance by the Darren Lavallee Band.  It was a day to pause, reflect and honour residential school survivors and those who didn’t return home. To carry forward the spirit that every child matters.

Gimli honours the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation at Gimli Park Pavilion on outdoor stage. Welcome and opening prayer and drumming by the North Wolf Ojibaway drummers. Dignitaries Mayor of Gimli Kevin Chudd and Interlake-Gimli MLA Derek Johnson brought greetings. Residential school survivor Eric Robinson shared the importance of the day while Gloria Thomas told Phyliss’s story. Bannock and tea were available. The Darren Lavallee band provided entertainment.
