Andrushko’s and Fishermen team up for another successful toy drive

Date:

The Selkirk Fishermen/Andrushko family recently concluded their annual Christmas Toy Drive, a tradition the Andrushko’s have been running for 17 years.

This year’s event, held during their Dec. 22 game against the Beausejour Comets, saw an overwhelming response from both teams and the community.

“Two trucks jam-packed, 19 big, huge bags full of toys, it was a great turnout,” said Dayna Andrushko, who has been organizing the drive for all 17 years along with her husband Brian and now their kids Kasen, a Fishermen alumni, and Karter, a current member of the Fishermen.

The Andrushkos collected the toys and delivered them to the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg in time for Christmas.

Despite losing the game 3-0, the focus that day shifted to giving as both teams came together in support.

As the Fishermen return to the ice in January, they are getting set for a jam-packed couple of weeks before the Capital Region Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Fishermen have 10 games remaining, five home and five away, starting this Friday against the Arborg Ice Dawgs in Selkirk.

They currently sit fourth in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League with a record of 8-9-0-1-2.

Upcoming Games:

Friday, Jan. 10 vs Arborg Ice Dawgs, 7:30 p.m. at Selkirk Recreation Complex

Sunday, Jan. 12 vs La Broquerie Habs, 3 p.m. at Selkirk Recreation Complex.
