Fishermen off to desired start with home-opener triumph over Ice Dawgs

Date:

The Selkirk Fishermen will be pleased with their performance in Game 1 of the 2025-26 Capital Region Junior Hockey League season.

On Sunday, the Fishermen welcomed the Arborg Ice Dawgs to town for their home opener at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

Things started off close, with Selkirk taking a one-goal edge into the second period thanks to Dawson Bergagnini’s first goal of the season.

The middle frame was when the Fishermen truly found their scoring touch. Izzy Aime netted a pair, and Ashton Schroeder added a fourth for Selkirk, capping off a three-goal period.

Leading 4-0 through 40 minutes, Selkirk netminder Johnny Enns-Demchuk continued to search for his first shutout of the season. Having already been perfect through the first 16 shots he faced, Enns-Demchuk stopped another nine in the third on route to a 25-save shutout.

The performance helped secure Selkirk a 4-0 victory and their first three points of the season.

The Fishermen will now get a weekend off before a rematch with the Ice Dawgs the following weekend in Arborg. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at Arborg & District Arena.
