Strikeforce go back-to-back in Skylight Adult Soccer League

Date:

For the second straight year, the Selkirk Strikeforce are champions of the Skylight Adult Soccer League.

The Strikeforce faced Canoo Geel in a tightly contested final at Skylight Soccer Complex on March 31.

Selkirk jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Kris Pellaers and Garion Lefteruk. But Canoo Geel responded with two goals of their own to tie the match.

With the game deadlocked, it came down to penalty kicks to decide the winner. After nine shooters, Dexter Racicot buried the winning kick to seal the Strikeforce’s second consecutive title.

Strikeforce player-coach Kris Pellaers credited goalkeeper Eric Rensfelt as the team’s most valuable player.

“It shows us playing together, we’re just developing as a team and being able to win championships, and pretty good,” said Pellaers. “Back-to-back shows that we’re heading in the right direction—we just need the players to come out.”

The Strikeforce will return to the pitch this summer in the Manitoba Major Soccer League.
