Lower Fort Garry invites you to take a step back in time and join them for an afternoon of elegance and history.
Friends of Lower Fort Garry (FOLFG) is pleased to offer a High Tea at the Veranda of the Big House at Lower Fort Garry on July 28.
FOLFG is a registered charity that supports the Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site.
“Our passionate group of volunteers seeks out independent and collaborative partnerships with LFGNHS while nurturing positive relationships with the community of Selkirk, the Interlake, and the greater Winnipeg area,” said Dr. Carolyn Weiss, President of FOLFG .
Join FOLFG and experience a traditional High Tea held on the historic Lower Fort Gary grounds, reminiscent of gatherings from 1851.
“Mrs. Colvile loved to invite a couple of her friends to meet and learn something from each other,” said Dr. Weiss.
Mrs. Colvile was the wife of Hudson’s Bay Company Forts and Territories Governor Eden Colvile.
She frequently hosted tea parties in the Big House in the 1850’s.
“We wouldn’t be having tea at the Big House,” added Dr. Weiss.
FOLFG will offer two seatings of the High Tea, and tickets must be purchased in advance through www.folfg.com.
The 1 p.m. seating is already sold out, and only a limited number of tickets are available for the 3:30 p.m. session.
Each ticket costs $40 per person and includes a $10 tax receipt. Children ages 5 to 13 can attend the prestigious event for $25 per ticket.
The ticket price covers an array of delicious food, such as hearty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and a variety of steeped teas.
Life a Little Sweeter, a local café on the Lower Fort Garry property, will cater for the High Tea event.
Life a Little Sweeter has served patrons delicious meals at Lower Fort Garry for two years. They are open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to serve you breakfast, lunch or early dinner.
Experience the one-of-a-kind tea blends crafted by Three & Tea (formerly Three6Tea), a beloved local family-owned business in Selkirk. Visit their charming café on 351 Main St., open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
FOLFG can accommodate certain dietary restrictions. Please email info@folfg.com to discuss your requirements in advance and confirm whether the changes can be accommodated.
After your tea, your ticket also allows you to tour all areas of Lower Fort Garry, including the exhibits and interpreters.
FOLFG’s inaugural High Tea event at the Big House Veranda is momentous.
According to Dr. Wiess, there have been previous tea events, although none have occurred on Lower Fort Garry’s property.
“We want to do something fancy and different for people to come out and enjoy the site.”
FOLFG is raising funds for unique programming opportunities at Lower Fort Garry.
FOLFG also hosts other fundraisers throughout the year.
“We host our famous Ghost Tours in September and October and have a Brunch and Shop day for Mother’s Day and Christmas,” Dr. Weiss explained.
FOLFG eagerly awaits their High Tea on the Veranda on July 28. Secure your tickets now to be a part of this memorable gathering.
