Cockerill ties for fourth at DP World Tour event

Date:

Everyone looks forward to payday but Stony Mountain’s Aaron Cockerill had a really, really good one recently.

Cockerill tied for fourth at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, firing a 4-under par fourth-round 68 to finish the tournament at 10 under, just four shots back of Northern Ireland’s well-known Rory McIlroy.

Cockerill finished in a three-way tie for fourth overall. He started the event with rounds of 71, 67, and 72.

Cockerill’s reward? A cool cheque of over $510,000 Canadian. (Yep, that’s right).

That performance moved Cockerill 33 points up the Race to Dubai rankings to ninth overall.

He continued his stellar play last Sunday, shooting a 5-under par 67 during the final round of the DP World Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Championship in Dubai.

Cockerill made an eagle on the 14th hole to go along with five birdies, 10 pars and two bogeys.

He finished the tournament with a 12-under par 276 after earlier rounds of 67, 70, and 72 to tie for 23rd overall. He earned 28.8 points and earned $31,387.80 Canadian.
