Get started on your spring cleaning by weeding out all those no-longer-read books. The Friends of the South Interlake Regional Library are gearing up for their spring book donation drive at the Stonewall library from April 23 to 27.
The Friends of the SIRL is a volunteer organization that works to support the Stonewall, Teulon and Bookmobile libraries through community fundraising and advocacy efforts. Since 2017, they have been successful in raising funds for various improvements, such as enhancing the Bookmobile, providing junior seating at our libraries, supporting summer reading programs and acquiring a branded outdoor canopy and flags. New members are always welcome to join the Friends and contribute to their cause for a membership fee of only $10.
The spring book sale welcomes donations of books that are clean, undamaged and pest/mildew-free. Preference is given to newer publications from the past decade. Any books that do not meet our library’s collection standards will be sold at the Quarry Days Used Book Sale in August, with all proceeds directly supporting our libraries.
According to library director Clint Curle, the main goal of the regional library is to promote literacy in South Interlake communities. To achieve this mission, the Friends of the South Interlake Regional Library play a pivotal role.
“Donating used books or volunteering with the Friends is a great way to give back,” he said.
Books to be donated can be dropped off at the Stonewall library during its operating hours.
