An Inwood girl is back at home after spending about a month at Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Hospital.
Three-year-old Maize Morin was diagnosed in May with a rare form of kidney cancer called nephroblastoma, also known as Wilm’s tumour.
She underwent chemotherapy, followed by surgery on June 13 to remove her kidney and the tumour.
Her grandma Susan Senick said the surgery was a success, although they are still waiting for results from tests on the tumour.
Maize was discharged to go home on June 19, while waiting to find out if further chemotherapy or radiation will be needed.
“Maize has been feeling pretty good since the surgery,” Senick said, adding that their family was further blessed last Wednesday when her youngest daughter had a baby boy.
The community showed their support for the family at a sold-out fundraising social on June 1 at Inwood Memorial Hall, which helped raise funds to help cover expenses and loss of wages for Maize’s parents, Nathan Morin and Monique Bazin.
“It was a very emotional night for the family. The hall was full to capacity, and there were so many people to visit with and thank for their support,” Senick said.
“Overall, there has been tremendous support throughout all of this. Thank you to all that have contributed in any way.”
