Inwood’s historic creamery levelled by fire

An early evening blaze on Dec. 12 has changed the landscape of Inwood. The vacant 106-year-old Inwood Creamery building went up in flames. The call came in to the local fire department just before 7 p.m. and by the time firefighters, arrived the building was already engulfed in flames. Initial reports suggest that the fire started at the back of the building before quickly consuming the rest of the structure. According to sources the fire was under control by 11:30 p.m.  Provincial records state that the building was originally the Narcisse Creamery. It was moved to Inwood in 1918. The creamery was purchased by Tom Elliot of Dominion Creamery, who ran it from 1922-29 before selling it to A. Phillips and Son, who marketed the butter out of their Winnipeg firm, Winnipeg Cold Storage. Stanley Phillips managed the facility from 1950-1965. 

At the time of the fire the last business known to occupy the space was Kimpex. While the building know to locals as Inwood Creamery was a complete loss, nearby homes and buildings were untouched, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
