Jets scorers helping club stay in MMJHL’s top five

The Stonewall Jets recent offensive success has led to them sitting fifth in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League entering December.

The Jets have now scored five goals in three consecutive games, which have helped them win two of the three.

Last week the Jets split games with the River East Royal Knights and Ft. Garry/Ft. Rouge Twins as their record moved to 9-8-1.

Thursday night they got two points in a 5-1 win over River East at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.

Stonewall’s Rylan Slatcher led the charge with a hat trick over the game’s final two periods.

The game began with Adam Newcombe opening the scoring for Stonewall in the first.

After River East evened things to make it 1-1 through 20, Slatcher netted his first of the game which kicked off four unanswered goals for the Jets.

Karson King made it 3-1 in the middle frame before Slatcher got his second.

He then capped off the hat trick in the third as the Jets picked up their ninth win of the season.

Stonewall finished with a 40-28 edge in shots as Spencer Hunnam was credited with the win, making 26 saves on the evening with Stonewall’s Everett Winters also coming in and stopping the lone shot he faced.

The Jets then played another offensive duel on Friday at Century Arena where the Twins took it in an 8-5 final.

Five goals were scored in the first period with Stonewall’s Kale Chipman and Kai Smith tallying for the Jets.

Twins’ Drew Russell and David Balshaw led the game offensively with hat tricks apiece that powered them to victory.

Stonewall’s Alex Kaczorowski, Dylan Vitelli and Gavin Holod also netted goals in the loss helping the Jets win the shots battle 43-26.

Winters finished with 18 saves in the game while Twins’ Kennedy Kerr finished with 38 and was credited with the win.

Stonewall now look ahead to December where they will play seven games including four at home before the Christmas Break.
