Providence signs Warren Collegiate standout Lauren Voth

Date:

The Providence University College and Theological Seminary women’s basketball team announced the commitment of Warren Collegiate Institute guard Lauren Voth on May 1 for the 2025-26 season.

Voth, a senior at WCI, was a Provincial All-Star at the AA girls basketball championship, a Basketball Manitoba Graduating All-Star, and was named to the AA Female All-Manitoba Team. She helped lead the Wildcats to the AA provincial title during the 2024-25 season.

Voth becomes the second Wildcat this year to sign with the Pilots, joining teammate Colby Darragh. Providence competes in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference.

The commitment continues Providence’s focus on local talent, particularly from Warren Collegiate.

“Getting someone that can bring up the ball, can handle the pressure with the press,” said Wildcats head coach Jason Darragh. “At the next level it’ll be intense at the beginning because it’s that next step, but she’s well capable of handling that. She can dribble the ball, shoot from the outside. On our team she runs the fast break, so her and Colby — I’m curious to see if the coach there puts them together to see if they can play the same way they do here.”

“Usually Colby’s feeding it to Lauren because she’s already down at the basket, and she can finish her layups at high speed, which is a real asset. She doesn’t have to slow down — she catches the ball at full speed, takes a step and finishes it off. Quick-hitting points are kind of how they play too, so she’ll fit right in.”

Coach Darragh plans to run off-season workouts with both Voth and Darragh ahead of their transition to college ball. They will also be assigned weight-training programs to prepare for the next level.

Voth’s recruitment began after she attended a Pilots game this past season. That visit led to conversations with team staff, who later watched her play in the Graduating High School All-Star Games. She then took part in a team workout and toured the Providence campus.

“The campus is really nice there and definitely a welcoming place,” said Voth. “The workout was pretty intense but a lot of fun. We did lots of timed shooting drills and lots of shooting from outside — it was about an hour, hour and a half-ish — so we got lots in and lots of running. It was good.”

Voth officially signed on shortly after.

“I’m excited to meet this new group of teammates and am excited for this new opportunity to take my basketball to the next level,” she said. “Especially going with Colby too — it’s great that we already have that chemistry on the court, so it’ll be nice to see what we can do together next year.”
