Stonewall’s 45th annual Terry Fox Run raised more than $40,000 for cancer research on Sunday, Sept. 14, as community spirit was on full display throughout the day.
The day began with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Stonewall Lions Club at Lions Manor with proceeds supporting the Stonewall Terry Fox Run.
Registration opened at noon at Quarry Park Heritage Arts Centre, with the run beginning at 1 p.m. Participants walked, ran, rolled or rode the marked route, which included two water stations manned by the Stonewall Scouts and Terry Fox volunteers.
Quarry Physiotherapy staff Stephanie and Beth led a warm-up session. Jimm and Aileen Simon provided a pipe and drum send-off, while Shelley and Ian Proven carried the Terry Fox banner out of Quarry Park and south down Main Street to lead the parade of participants. The Stonewall Kinsmen barbecued hot dogs and handed out water for all the participants.
Event chair Cathy Goresky welcomed participants with words of encouragement and gratitude.
“Together, we can finish what Terry started, for ourselves, our families and friends, and for those we may never meet,” she said.
The Terry Fox Run remains volunteer-driven, with all proceeds going to cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation.
