Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) hosted a photo contest for Manitoban pets throughout June.
Pet owners from across the province submitted their favourite photos of their four-legged pals for a chance to have their photo featured on a limited-edition beer can label.
WHS ran the Pets on Pint’s contest in partnership with Good Neighbour Brewing Company, a locally owned and operated brewery in Manitoba.
Good Neighbour’s co-owner Amber Sarraillon grew up in Stonewall and values giving back to the community.
Over 1,800 Manitoban pet owners submitted their favourite photos of their pets for the online photo contest, and four lucky animals claimed victory.
There were two ways that pets could land their place on the Good Neighbour Brewing Company beer can label.
The top two pets with the most votes received the ultimate prize, along with two other animals, through a random draw.
Bunsen and Too received the most votes for the contest. Bunsen accumulated an outstanding 6,007 votes and Too received 5,215 votes.
Each vote received was equivalent to $1 to be directly donated to the WHS.
Ultimately, the Pets on Pints contest brought in over $114,000 in donations for the animal rescue.
“We never expected it to get to that point,” said WHS Director of Communications and Marketing Carly Peters.
“It was fun to watch the positions switch in the last few minutes as owners kept voting, trying to make their pet claim the top spot.”
Peters noted that the WHS set a goal to raise $25,000, but they blew through that amount during the first two days of holding the Pets on Pints contest.
The WHS also selected two winners by random draw. Oslo the cat and Brewski, the dog both, found their names on the winning tickets.
Brewski is a friendly pal from Stonewall, and his owner, Troy Glass, was excited to see another Stonewall connection be made with Good Neighbour Brewing Company.

WHS and Good Neighbour Brewing Company celebrated the winners with a Pet Patio Parade at the Good Neighbour Brewery on July 17.
Twenty-one dogs, two cats and over one-hundred avid animal lovers were in attendance to celebrate the launch of the Pet Pals Pilsner, the limited-edition beers with the winning pet labels.
Pets strutted down the alley while the humans shared their animal-loving pride.
“It was a great way to celebrate the launch of the beer and as thanks to those who supported Pets on Pints,” added Peters.
You can purchase a pack of Pet Pals Pilsner at Good Neighbour Brewing Company located at 110 Sherbrook St. in Winnipeg. But act fast as a limited number of the pilsners remain and are only being sold while quantities last. A portion of Pet Pals Pilsner sales will be donated back to WHS, so you can support local businesses and local animal rescues and have a good pint of beer simultaneously.
If you missed out on entering your furry friend in this year’s Pets on Pints contest, WHS hopes to host it again next year.
“People love to show off their pets,” Peters said.
If you want more ways to support the WHS, they always accept donations online at www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca/donate.
