The Stony Mountain Rockwood Fire Department enjoyed an evening out at their 18th annual awards dinner and fundraiser.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, firefighters and community members gathered at the Stony Mountain Recreation Centre for the 18th Annual Firefighter’s Ball. The formal dinner and dance usually raises between $5,000 and $7,000 towards equipment and other items for the fire hall or crew members that the annual budget doesn’t cover.
This year, the outing included silent auction prizes, a full-course meal and dancing to live music by The MuDDy MisFits, which features crew member Ian Tesarski. The theme was “A Masquerade Party,” so guests had the chance to dress up their outfits with fancy masks.
During the event, several firefighters earned recognition after they retired from their role.
Greg Campbell, who wasn’t able to attend, was recognized for 37 years of service. His last day was at the end of January 2023.
Harold Somers, who also wasn’t able to attend, was recognized for his retirement at the end of June after nearly 23 years of service to the community.
Stevyn Tyler was recognized for seven years of service. He joined the crew in 2016 but decided to step back from the fire hall due to some major life events. His last day was March 31, 2023.
In addition, several members earned recognition for their achievements and received the epaulettes for passing their Level 1 certification. Congratulations to Robert (Bob) Delaney, Justin Drohomereski, Michael Sagriff, Scott Miskiewicz and Riley Vautour (who was not in attendance).
Lt. Ryley Wytinck was also honoured for successfully completing his Level 2 certification. In addition, Kristina Knapp was promoted to the second captain’s position and was presented with the red captain’s helmet.
“We would like to thank everyone that attended this year’s Firefighters’ Ball and made the evening such a success,” said fire Chief Marcel McIvor.
“A big thank you to all who sponsored and donated all of the silent auction prizes. We truly appreciate all of you and could not do the event without you. Thank you from our entire crew.”
