Bisons hunt for a win, Orioles are 4-3

The Altona Bisons are still in search of their first win in the 2026 Manitoba Junior Baseball League season, while the Pembina Valley Orioles are just a notch above .500 and in the middle of the pack in the standings.

The Bisons were blanked Friday 9-0 by the Elmwood Giants and then dropped both games in a Sunday doubleheader in falling 14-5 and 15-3 to the Interlake Blue Jays. 

The Orioles, on other hand, split a Sunday doubleheader with Elmwood  in losing game one 10-3 but then rebounding to win game two 9-5.

It leaves the Orioles in fourth place at 4-3 while the Bisons remain in the cellar at 0-9.

The Bisons were outhit 13-3 in being blanked by Elmwood, who collected two runs in the third and four more in the fourth. Dillan Thiessen gave up five hits and four runs over three and one third innings for Altona.

In game one against Interlake, the Bisons gave up three runs in the first and three more in the third, while the Blue Jays had a 14-7 edge in hits overall. Altona managed to get five runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Logan Lesser gave up eight hits and eight runs over four innings.

Interlake then collected six runs in the top of the fourth before adding five more in the fifth inning of game two while outhitting Altona 13-8. Lochlan Rempel gave up eight hits and nine runs over three and a third innings.

For the Orioles, Pembina Valley kicked off game one with two runs in the first but then trailed 8-2 after four innings and were edged 10-8 in hits. Sam Blatz surrendered seven hits and eight runs over three and two-thirds, while Karsten Peters was three for four and Jaren Hildebrand was two for three.

In game two, four runs in the top of the sixth turned the tide in favour of the Orioles, who ended up with a slight 9-8 edge in hits. Josh Dyck gave up eight hits and five runs over six and one-third innings, while Jackson Friesen had three RBIs with Teemu Peters going two for three.

The Orioles are at home in Winkler this weekend for a Sunday doubleheader with the Winnipeg South Wolves. Altona was scheduled for a Wednesday game with Carillon followed by St. Boniface Friday and a Sunday doubleheader in Interlake.
