Nighthawks win provincial baseball championship

The Northlands Parkway Collegiate varsity boys baseball team are tops in the province after a stellar showing at the G3 Provincial Baseball Championship in Selkirk over the weekend. The team followed up a 1-1/second-place showing in the round robin with victories over the River East Kodiaks (6-3) and Boissevain/Wawanesa 11-7 in the playoffs to earn a seat at the championship game against Vincent Massey, which they won 8-6 to bring home the title. The team were also the Zone 4 champs this season. In other high school provincials action over the weekend, the Morden Thunder girls were at the softball championships, where they finished first in their pool in the round robin with a 2-0 record but then got knocked out in the quarterfinals with an 11-1 loss to Vincent Massey. And the NPC girls soccer team were at the provincial AAA soccer championships in Steinbach, where they beat Kelvin 6-0 and Vincent Massey 2-1 before falling to Miles Macdonell 3-0 in the consolation final.
