Dawson Cowan backstops Chiefs to Game 2 victory

Dawson Cowan and the Spokane Chiefs have pulled even in the Western Hockey League championship series against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Chiefs’ offence exploded for four unanswered goals in the first period of Game 2 at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat, Alta., on Sunday night, en route to a 6-2 victory.

Warren’s Cowan stopped 19 of 21 shots in net for the Chiefs, earning his league-leading 13th win of the post-season as Spokane tied the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

The series now shifts to Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Wash., for Games 3 through 5, with Game 3 set for Tuesday night.The winner of the series will claim both the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions and a berth in the 2025 Memorial Cup, scheduled for May 22 to June 1 in Rimouski, Que.
