Tour guide invites visitors to explore historic Cardinal chapel

Date:

A local student and newly appointed curator is encouraging residents and visitors alike to discover the history of the Sainte-Thérèse Chapel in Cardinal this summer.

Rodin Labossiére, a graduate of Notre Dame High School who is set to study abroad in the fall, has taken on the role of tour guide at the chapel, which is a designated Municipal Heritage Site.

Built in 1927 by residents of the small town near Notre Dame de Lourdes, the chapel was later abandoned but has since been carefully restored using original sacred items. Visitors can view historical photographs and learn about the heritage of both the chapel and the town.

Though the chapel receives fewer than 500 visitors a year, it is open daily throughout the summer and offers a quiet and reflective stop for those interested in Manitoba’s rural religious history.

The non-profit group that maintains the chapel accepts donations by mail to help with upkeep. Contributions can be sent to: PO Box 10, Cardinal/Notre Dame, MB R0G 1M0.
