Stonewall will take the national stage in 2027 as one of the host communities for the Baseball Canada Championships, bringing the country’s top 18U athletes to town next August.
Baseball Canada released its full championship schedule this week, confirming host cities for divisions ranging from 13U to senior men. Stonewall will welcome the 18U national championship from Aug. 19 to 22, a major opportunity for local volunteers, players and fans to showcase the community on a national platform.
For host organizer Adam Kirk, the announcement is a point of pride for a town long known for its strong baseball culture.
“It is huge in my mind,” Kirk said. “Stonewall is a place with a great facility, great local support, and it is why these diamonds were built.”
Kirk said preparations will begin immediately, with a focus on ensuring Stonewall’s ballpark is in top shape well before teams arrive.
“Diamond prep will be a big focus,” he said. “Park upgrades, fundraising and volunteers are huge to make these events a success. That is a little bit of a long list, but my group will be committed to running the best tournament we can.”
Stonewall is one of two Manitoba hosts named for 2027. Winkler will stage the 22U national championship from Aug. 12 to 15, bringing another high-level event to the province.
Other 2027 host sites announced include:
• Baseball Canada Cup: Aug. 11–15 in Summerside, P.E.I.
• 13U: Aug. 26–29 in Woodstock, Ont.
• Ray Carter Cup (15U Boys): Aug. 26–29 in Vaughan, Ont.
• 16U Girls: Dates to be confirmed in Moncton, N.B.
• 19U Women’s: Dates to be confirmed in Saskatoon, Sask.
• Men’s: Aug. 26–29 in Edmonton, Alta.
• Women’s: Dates and location to be confirmed.
Baseball Canada noted that dates and locations are subject to change.
For Stonewall, the next two years promise to be an exciting runway toward hosting one of the country’s top youth championships — an opportunity, Kirk says, the community is ready to embrace.community say they are eager to embrace.
