Nichol rink captures A event at Stonewall men’s bonspiel

The Access Credit Union Stonewall Curling Club hosted its annual men’s bonspiel March 13–15, welcoming 28 teams — the largest field for the event since 2015. After a busy weekend that featured 11 different draw times, Team Craig Nichol captured the A event title with a decisive victory over Team Dale Lott in the final.

Nichol’s rink jumped out to a 4–0 lead after three ends. Lott’s team responded with a single in the fourth end to narrow the score to 4–1, but Nichol sealed the win with a four-ender in the fifth end to secure an 8–1 victory. The winning rink competes in the Stonewall Curling Club’s Tuesday Night Men’s League. The A event champions were skip Craig Nichol, third Ryan Smith, second Riley Nichol and lead Devin Smith. Team Dan Hunt claimed the B event title with a rink made up of skip Dan Hunt, third Dillon Bednarek, second Matt Scott and lead Darren Bednarek. The C event was won by the Rodney Legault rink, consisting of skip Bryan Galbraith, third Rodney Legault, second Shane Walker, lead Matt Wutxke and fifth Scott Marohn. Team Lorne Kern captured the D event championship with skip Lorne Kern, third Brad Thidrickson, second Shawn Thidrickson and lead Ross Horton.
