Stonewall United are heating up big time after dropping their season opener three weeks ago.
After a bounce back performance that earned them their first win of the season last week, Stonewall kept things going with one of their largest margins of defeat in club history last Friday when they defeated Triumph, 9-1, at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.
Adam Brown, Chris Thompson, and Chris Hunter led the way, scoring two goals apiece to provide a large lead, while Israel Ogungbemi, Tyler Kubin, and Rupert Robinson also chipped in goals as United improved their record to 2-1.
“(We) played a great team game where everyone was playing well and we were passing well as a team and we made it count when we needed to,” said United defender Matt Olnick.
He added that they took advantage of a short bench on the Triumph end which saw them open the game with only nine players, later getting up to 10.
United meanwhile fielded a full roster that provided them a large advantage being able to sub on-and-off amid the 30-degree heat.
The win earns Stonewall their first two-game wins streak of the season which they will look to keep going next week in Manitoba Major Soccer League Division 3 play.
“Everyone’s clicking early on so we need to continue that and we will definitely make some noise in Division 3 this year with its new format of only playing every team once,” said Olnick.
