The Carman Cougars high school hockey team is off to a great start in the 2024-25 season, as they won the Glenboro High School Tournament from Oct. 18-20.
The Cougars went 3-0 in the tournament, beating Neepawa 5-1, Boissevain 10-2, and the Pembina Tigers 4-3 in the finals.
“We were really excited that we got to play Pembina in the finals as they are in our league,” said Cougars’ head coach Michael Hetherington. “We wanted to have a strong game against them and win or lose, set a precedent that we’re going to be a tough team to play against this year. Getting the 4-3 win was obviously a bonus, but it was a great game by both sides.”
Rookie goalie Carson O’Connor was fantastic in the final as he made some huge stops in the final minutes of play to secure the win for Carman.
The Cougars have also begun league action in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. They are currently starting off strong, boasting a 2-1 record, including a recent 6-0 win on Oct. 25 against the Mountain Mustangs.
The Carman Cougars are back in action with a road game on Oct. 1 against the Pembina Tigers. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
