Gimli’s Vigfusson nets hat trick for Hawks

Interlake product Nathan Vigfusson delivered a statement performance Feb. 20, scoring a hat trick to power the Charleswood Hawks to a 6-3 victory over the Raiders Jr. Hockey Club in Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League play.

The 21-year-old forward from Gimli struck three times on home ice, including two power-play markers and the game-winning goal, finishing with three goals on the night and no penalties. The outing marked his first hat trick of the 2025-26 season and pushed him to 15 goals and 34 points in 35 games.

Now in his fourth MMJHL campaign, Vigfusson has been a steady offensive contributor for the Hawks. He is averaging 0.97 points per game this season and has recorded four power-play goals and one game-winner.

Vigfusson has been particularly effective against the Raiders this year, posting four goals and six points in three games against them. He has also tallied seven points in five games versus the St. James Jr. Canucks and six points in five games against the River East Royal Knights.

Over 142 career MMJHL regular-season games split between the Stonewall Jets and Charleswood, Vigfusson has compiled 59 goals and 115 points. His breakout 2024-25 season saw him score 26 goals and 46 points in 34 games.

Charleswood (21-14-4) currently sits fifth in league standings and has clinched a playoff spot as the regular season winds down.

The Hawks will be in Stoneawall to play the Stonewall Jets on Sunday, March 1with a 7 p.m. matchup.
