Volunteers needed for Women’s National Championship

Date:

Baseball Canada is bringing the 2026 Women’s Championship to Manitoba this summer.

Optimist Park in Winnipeg will host the national tournament from July 9 to 12, featuring eight teams from six provinces: Manitoba, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Ontario 2, Quebec, Quebec 2 and Nova Scotia.

B.C. enters as the reigning champion after defeating Quebec 8-7 in the gold-medal game last August in Quebec City.

The tournament also marks Manitoba’s return to the event after last competing in 2024, when the team went 1-4 and finished at the bottom of the standings.

The last time Manitoba hosted the tournament was in Stonewall in 2022, when Ontario captured gold.

“Baseball Canada is thrilled to welcome all players, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans to the 2026 Women’s National Championship for what promises to be an exciting and memorable event,” said Baseball Canada CEO Jason Dickson. “Baseball Canada National Championships are a chance for people from around the country to gather and celebrate all of what makes our sport great.”

With the tournament taking place in Winnipeg, Baseball Manitoba is calling for local volunteers to help support the event.

Volunteer opportunities include front gate attendants, scorekeepers and pitch counters, with training required for some roles, as well as bilingual announcers, 50/50 ticket sales, merchandise sales, general event support, hospitality and awards.

“Volunteers are a vital part of creating a positive experience for teams and visitors alike. Whether someone has a strong baseball background or simply wants to help support a national-level sporting event in Manitoba, there are opportunities available for all experience levels,” Baseball Manitoba said in a release last week.

Those interested in volunteering can visit the Baseball Manitoba website or go to volunteersignup.org/JW3PX for more information and to sign up.
