The Stonewall Rams Varsity Girls Softball Team kept their strong start going last week with another two wins at the Panther Softball Tournament last week.
The Rams are entering the 2026 season looking to make it even further than their bronze medal run at the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association AAA Provincials last year, and so far look like one of the teams to beat.
Last Thursday they played to an 8-4 win over the Vincent Massey (Brandon) Vikings, which they then followed up with a 14-4 win over the Prairie Mountain Predators later that afternoon.
Their 2-0 record earned them the top seed in Pool 3 at Glenboro School before Friday’s playoff round was forced to a cancellation due to the high winds in southwest Manitoba.
Despite not getting the opportunity to go for gold, the Rams kept their near-perfect record intact, improving to 13-1 through 14 tournament games.
So far they have racked up gold medals at both the PCI Saints Softball Classic and the GVC Invitational Softball Tournament since the season’s start back on May 1.
This year’s team has a similar flavour to the 2025 squad, with grade 12’s Lucy Hoff, Paige Powroznik, Kassie Siwak and Sierra Slatcher making up their senior core.
The club also have a strong Grade 11 regiment in Avery Deprez, Abi Minnie, Keira Pattie, Peyton Rinn and Riley Swanson, along with Grade 10s Katie Braid, Jordyn Chetyrbok and Sara Vande and Grade 9 rookies’ Lily Hammond and Brynn Williams.
The players, along with head coach Curtis Grieve and his staff of Brenda and Denis Woods make for a team poised for another strong campaign.
Next for them is regular season action in which they are still awaiting their schedule release.
