Balmoral judokas earn medals at Portage Open

The Balmoral Judo Club delivered a strong showing at the Portage Judo Club Open on April 18, with its athletes earning multiple podium finishes against a field of approximately 160 competitors from across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

In the under-10 participation division, Phoenix Wakeham and Ellie Cook represented Balmoral on the mat, gaining valuable competition experience.

Ryker Rutledge led the club’s U12 boys results with a silver-medal performance. Teammates Austin MacDonald, Leo Paton, Maverick Paton and Greyson Ritchie each secured bronze in the same division.

Balmoral continued its success in the U14 female division, where Josie Hoplock captured silver in the under-48-kilogram category. Raeghan Wakeham added a bronze medal in the same weight class.

Avery Wakeham rounded out the club’s podium finishes with a silver medal in the U16 male under-55-kilogram division.

The club will wrap up its season at the Nakamura Open in Winnipeg on May 2.
