It was a clean-sweep weekend for the Interlake Jr. Blue Jays.
Interlake posted three wins in as many games, extending its winning streak to five games.
On Friday, the Blue Jays came out on top in an offensive battle with the Winnipeg South Wolves (1-12), earning an 8-7 victory at Quarry Park in Stonewall.
A Sunday doubleheader against the Altona Bisons (0-12) featured another strong offensive showing, but with much sharper defensive play from Interlake.
The Blue Jays earned 13-3 and 10-1 victories on home field to improve to 4-0 in the season series against the Bisons.
The results moved Interlake up two spots in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League standings, where it now sits third with a 7-4 record.
The strong weekend also gives the Blue Jays an opportunity to gain ground on teams ahead of them in the standings, including the Pembina Valley Orioles (6-3) and Elmwood Giants (6-2), whom they will face during a busy four-game week.
First up is a Wednesday road matchup against the fifth-place Orioles, a team Interlake has yet to defeat in two meetings this season.
The Blue Jays will then continue their road swing Friday night with a trip to Winnipeg to face the fourth-place Giants before returning home Sunday for a doubleheader against the league-leading St. Boniface Legionaires (9-3).
Upcoming games:
• Wednesday, June 10 at Pembina Valley Orioles, 7 p.m., Arctic Field
• Friday, June 12 at Elmwood Giants, 7 p.m., Koskie Field
• Sunday, June 14 vs. St. Boniface Legionaires (doubleheader), 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Quarry Park
