The Stonewall Sr. Jays made another move up the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League standings last week with a road win in Steinbach.
For the third time this season, the Jays defeated the fifth-ranked Carillon Sultans on the Sultans’ field, as they took it 5-4 on Tuesday at A.D. Penner Park.
The Jays are now responsible for three of Carillon’s four losses this season where outside of games with the Jays, they would be ranked much higher.
Stonewall hit the field again on Thursday in Dugald where they took on the fourth-ranked Springfield Sr. Braves in a hit-filled matchup.
The Jays took a 3-1 lead out of the first inning and later held a 10-7 lead before a four-run bottom sixth by the Braves, which turned into the game’s final runs.
The Braves took it 11-10 the final to improve to 4-3 while Stonewall now hold a 4-6 record for seventh in the nine-team WSBL.
Next up is a Wednesday and Thursday slate against Carillon and the Elmwood Giants.
Upcoming Games:
• Wednesday, June 24 vs Carillon Sultans, 7:30 p.m. at Quarry Park
• Thursday, June 25 at Elmwood Giants, 7:30 p.m. at Koskie Field
