U15 Lightning girls showcase skills at POE camp

Date:

Eight members of the U15 AAA Female Interlake Lightning got to showcase their talents at the Hockey Manitoba Girls U16 Program of Excellence Spring Selection Camp last Friday to Sunday at Hockey For All Centre.

Lightning skaters Brynn Williams, Kallie Sutherland, Paige Bernier, Claire Sugimoto, Piper Tataryn, Kahlie Minnie, and Allyson Keck, along with Lightning netminder Emma Cassils were among the 136 players taking the ice.

Hockey Manitoba’s goal of the program is to teach up-and-coming female athletes the skills, concepts and tactics specific to the Women’s U18 Program of Excellence, ensuring that these athletes are given the proper development time in order to move to the U18 level and beyond.

POE players have gone on to play at the U Sports, NCAA and International levels in the past.

Players were broken up into eight different teams to play a series of scrimmages over the three-day camp.

Hockey Manitoba will later select 40 players from the camp to the Girls U16 POE Top-40 Camp in June, which is followed up by the Girls U16 POE Competition Phase in August.
