Neufeld heading to Montana’s Brier with Team Carruthers

B.J. Neufeld will have another opportunity to compete at the Montana’s Brier next month.

Neufeld, who resides in Gimli and curls for Team Carruthers helped his squad defeat Team Calvert 9-7 on Sunday afternoon in the Viterra Championship final at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie.

With the win Team Carruthers punched their ticket to the 2025 Montana’s Brier from Feb. 28-Mar. 9 at Prospera Place in Kelowna, B.C. where they will represent Manitoba.

In the final match, Team Carruthers took a 2-1 lead into the fourth end and scored four points in the fifth end, extending their lead to 6-1. Team Calvert fought back to narrow the score to 8-7 in the ninth end, but Team Carruthers managed to secure one more point in the tenth end, finishing the game at 9-7. They concluded the tournament with an impressive 8-1 record.

Neufeld, who joined Team Carruthers last month after being released from Team Dunstone, will make his tenth Brier appearance as he seeks his second gold medal at this prestigious event.

The other four members of Team Carruthers are skip Reid Carruthers, Connor Njegovan, Kyle Doering, and Catlin Schneider.

This group previously went 7-1 in Pool A at the 2024 Brier in Regina before being eliminated by Team Dunstone in the playoff round.

With Neufeld’s addition to the team, they will aim to reach the top of the Brier podium and earn the chance to represent Canada at the 2025 World Curling Championships.
