Darren Hesom continued his strong start to the junior golf season, capturing the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) Juvenile Boys title at the MJT ZEAL Series event held June 6-7 at Larters at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club.
The 16-year-old Morden golfer opened the tournament with an impressive one-under-par 71 before carding a 76 in the second round to finish with a two-day total of 147, eight shots clear of runner-up Brayden Hamm of Brandon.
Hesom built a comfortable lead after the opening round and maintained his advantage throughout the final day to secure the division championship.
“Sean Murray helped me develop over the off-season and have early success this year,” Hesom said following the victory.
With the win, Hesom qualified for the MJT National Tour Challenge, one of the tour’s premier national events.
