PRSD celebrates student success and community impact in 2025

Date:

Prairie Rose School Division (PRSD) remains committed to enriching the lives of students across its schools in Miami, Roland, Carman, Elm Creek, St. Laurent, and surrounding communities.

Superintendent and CEO Kevin Clace said 2025 was a remarkable year for the division, marked by student success across a wide range of areas.

“Prairie Rose School Division is a dynamic and inspiring environment, filled with a constant buzz of learning and activity,” Clace shared. “We are proud to have an extremely dedicated staff committed to ensuring our students receive outstanding learning experiences. Each year brings unique opportunities, achievements, and accomplishments for both staff and students.”

Clace noted there were many highlights to celebrate in 2025, including advancements in educational programming, finance, facilities maintenance, student wellbeing, and operational initiatives.

One major achievement was the successful implementation of nutrition programming in all PRSD schools, providing students with access to breakfast, lunch, and snack options. Clace reported that feedback from the 2026 PRSD budget consultation shows students feel supported by the program, which is also highly valued by parents, guardians, and community members.

Another point of pride for the division is its Advanced Placement (AP) program, where a majority of students achieved what Clace described as “phenomenal results.” In 2025, PRSD students recorded an 83.3 per cent success rate in earning university credit, continuing to meet or exceed provincial and global averages.

“We are very proud of this program and extend our appreciation to PRSD teachers Lisa Bruce, Rosie Massinon, and Marnie Stevenson,” Clace added. “Their expertise and guidance are key to the program’s continued success.”

PRSD also celebrated strong student engagement in social action and fundraising initiatives. Clace praised both staff and students for their commitment to citizenship and community support.

“Staff and students take great pride in supporting their local communities and engaging in social action,” he said. “I am extremely proud of the ways our students and staff give back.”

A special acknowledgement was given to the Carman Collegiate community, which, under the leadership of principal Mary Reimer, raised $18,412 for the Boundary Trails Cancer Care Unit through its annual Chocolate Mustache fundraiser. In addition, students and staff raised more than $10,000 through their Terry Fox Run campaign.

“These efforts have not gone unnoticed and will have a significant positive impact on many individuals,” Clace added.

Student wellbeing and belonging also remained a strong focus across the division. Recent data showed that approximately 70 per cent of students reported having a friend in their class, 88 per cent said they feel safe at school, and 95 per cent indicated they have a trusted adult they can turn to for help.

Throughout the year, PRSD schools hosted numerous events centered on Indigenous education and Truth and Reconciliation. Two highlights for Clace included Honouring the Circle –– a day of land-based learning and cultural celebration hosted by Institut Collégial St. Paul’s Collegiate (ICSPC) –– and PRSD’s inaugural Pow Wow Graduation Celebration at St. Laurent School.

Several major renovation and improvement projects were also completed in 2025. PRSD’s largest ongoing capital project is the Carman Collegiate roof replacement, funded by the Department of Public Service Delivery’s Capital Project Planning and Delivery Division.

Additional completed projects included refinishing the St. Laurent School gym floor; science lab renovations at St. Laurent School; drainage and ground improvements at St. François Xavier School and École St. Eustache; roof ladder safety upgrades at multiple schools; classroom renovations at Miami School and ICSPC; locker upgrades and replacements at ICSPC and Carman Collegiate; relocation of the Hutterian School library; washroom upgrades at École St. Eustache and Elm Creek School; and air conditioning upgrades at Roland School.

“I am extremely proud of the exceptional work completed by our Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor, custodians, and trades employees,” Clace noted.

Looking ahead to 2026, PRSD plans to continue several capital projects, including science lab upgrades at Elm Creek School, boiler system replacement at St. Laurent School, and HVAC system upgrades at St. François Xavier School.

“These projects represent a positive development for PRSD and demonstrate the Province’s ongoing commitment to renewing aging infrastructure and supporting safe, modern, and effective learning environments for Manitoba students,” Clace said.

PRSD will continue to focus on its four continuous improvement goals: literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and belonging, and reconciliation.

While the 2026–2027 school year budget has yet to be announced, the Board of Trustees and Senior Administration have begun preparations. Clace also thanked community members who participated in the Divisional Budget Consultation Sessions.

With school trustee elections scheduled for October, Clace encourages community members to consider running for trustee in their respective wards.

“As Superintendent and CEO, I am very proud of our staff, students, parents, and community members,” he said. “I look forward to continuing our work together and to the many accomplishments and celebrations the coming year will bring.”
