Manitobans can enjoy free park access, fishing this weekend

Date:

Manitobans can visit provincial parks and fish without a licence during Family Fishing Weekend from June 12 to 14.

The province announced that vehicle permits will not be required to enter provincial parks during the three-day period, although regular campground fees will still apply.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes said the initiative is intended to help families enjoy the outdoors without added costs.

As part of the weekend, Manitoba Parks and Manitoba Fisheries will offer free tours of the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery on June 13. Visitors can learn about fish stocking programs, see more than half a million trout and take part in releasing 250 trout into the Whiteshell River.

Anglers can fish without a provincial licence throughout Manitoba during the weekend, except in national parks where a federal licence is still required.

Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures Minister Ian Bushie encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to spend time outdoors with family and friends.

The province reminds visitors that all other fishing regulations remain in effect and encourages park users to follow fire safety guidelines and help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.
