With homemade recipes and a heart for giving back, three local women are launching Triple Bloom Catering — and inviting the community to taste what they’re all about at a special April 12 event.
Crystal Hjorleifson, Pam Sutyla and Sara Rodriguez officially opened Triple Bloom Catering and Company this February, fulfilling a dream each of them has carried for some time. Hjorleifson had always hoped to start her own business, and when Sutyla and Rodriguez left their jobs in the local service industry, the trio began talking about combining their skills for something bigger.
“We had been talking about starting something we could give back to the community with,” said Rodriguez. “My mom was a cook for as long as I can remember, and my grandma was a cook too. It just felt like something that I wanted to pursue as well, and it’s a needed thing in the community.”
Rodriguez has been in the restaurant serving industry for 12 years and was recently the assistant manager at the Arborg Hotel. Sutyla was in the industry for 15 years and was the general manager at the hotel before she left. Hjorleifson has cooked in various restaurants throughout her life and has experience working with the elderly. The three women put their cooking expertise, management experience and catering knowledge together to create Triple Bloom Catering and Company.
The business caters to any type of event, including weddings, funerals, birthdays, corporate events, private parties and more. The women also hope to start their own meal program for the community as they get going.
“The experience we gained from the hotel has paved the path for us to do this on our own,” said Sutyla.
Triple Bloom Catering and Company offers a typical supper meal, with beef, roasts, chicken, ham, turkey, different kinds of salads, meatballs, perogies, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, cookies, trifles, cakes and more. Their lunch menu has a few different options, with more to be added over time. They’re also getting into charcuterie.
“Our whole premise around everything is a lot of what we’re doing and cooking, we’ve made it,” said Rodriguez, meaning all their food is homemade goodness.
“That’s our focus,” said Hjorleifson. “To have home-cooked meals. All the good stuff.”
“We’re focusing on the health and well-being of everyone with home-cooked and healthy food,” said Sutyla.
Because Triple Bloom is a new company, they’re holding a tasting event on April 12 to show the community what they have to offer. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., they’ll host a dinner at the Arborg Curling Rink, offering a meal of charcuterie cups followed by garlic parmesan chicken, meatballs, green beans, dill pickle pasta salad, spring bloom salad, and wrapped up with cheesecake tarts, lemon cake and cake by Dawnett’s Delicious Designs for dessert.
The tasting will also include a raffle for a spring basket. Tickets for the event are $25 each and can be purchased from Hjorleifson, Sutyla or Rodriguez, or by messaging the Triple Bloom Catering and Company Facebook page. There are only 60 spots for the event, so the women recommend buying tickets now.
“It’s to let people taste our meal and get a sense of who we are,” said Rodriguez. “We’re hoping it’s the first of many.”
Though they’re focusing on catering right now, Triple Bloom has plans to add a concierge service for those in need locally — helping people clean, run errands and offering companionship. They also hope to offer event planning at some point, but they’re taking it one thing at a time for now.
