Rockwood council news in brief
Is your non-profit community organization looking for funding opportunities in the RM of Rockwood? The deadline is Jan. 31 to submit 2025 budget and grant requests for Rockwood council’s consideration.
The RM of Rockwood’s annual grant program provides financial support to multiple community organizations that provide programming, operate facilities and hold special events in local communities.
Funding will be considered for non-profit, community-based organizations that operate for the betterment of the Rural Municipality of Rockwood residents. Council makes funding decisions based on local needs and priorities within the limitations of the municipality’s approved budget, strategic goals and objectives.
Application categories include community enhancement grants, capital project grants and support grants.
The application form is posted on the RM of Rockwood’s website at www.rockwood.ca.
In other council news:
• The RMs of Rockwood and Woodlands established the Rockwood/Woodlands By-Law Enforcement and Animal Control Board in 2002. Rockwood has provided six months’ notice to the RM of Woodlands that it would like to cease operations on July 2, 2025.
• Maple Leaf Construction requested to mine the north half-portion of Road 8E between roads 79N and 80N. The landowner on the east side of Road 8E needs to enter in an agreement with the municipality to allow the company to mine the property. Council approved the request and the RM is in the process of entering into an agreement with the landowner.
• Council adopted the interim operating budget for 2025 effective Jan. 1 until council adopts the 2025 financial plan.
• Council authorized the installation of four additional street lights in the Stony Mountain industrial park.
• Council requested that the Public Utilities Board allow for the Gunton Utility’s $25,855 operating deficit to be recovered through the accumulated working capital surplus. The Gunton Utility had a working capital surplus of $130,822 in 2023.
• Council defeated the purchase of a half-page ad at a cost of $150 in the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony program.
• Council authorized a $5,000 sponsorship for the annual STARS gala.
• Council conditionally approved a request from a Gunton resident to have a maximum of three dogs and three cats on their property. Rockwood bylaws allow a maximum of two dogs and two cats in a townsite property.
• The RM of Rockwood will enter into an agreement with the towns of Teulon and Stonewall to provide mutual aid services when needed.
• Council gave second and third readings to a bylaw to close a portion of a government road allowance on 74th Avenue.
• Council entered into an agreement with David and Erika Schell to conduct a home industry to manufacture, construct and sell wood products.
• The RM of Rockwood entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Town of Stonewall related to land access for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
• The RM entered into an agreement with Skylark Homes Ltd. for a multi-lot subdivision for industrial use along Road 75N.
