Boardwalk Station offering Free Friday Community Movie Nights

Date:

This summer, Ruby’s Paradise, a family-owned and operated golf course (among other activities) owned by Anjali Schludermann, opened for businesses in Winnipeg Beach.

A few weeks after Ruby’s Paradise’s grand opening, Schludermann started renting Boardwalk Station at 38 Main Street in Winnipeg Beach, launching the new business on June 1. After the summer, they have decided to keep the fun going all winter.

“We decided to try renting Boardwalk Station to allow the community a fun space all year long,” said Schludermann.

The space, decked out with nine holes of indoor mini golf (repeat twice for 18 holes), arcade games such as Lucky & Wild, Ice Ball, basketball, and Candy Claw, pool tables and a coffee shop is set up for kids to come and hang out and have fun but is also a space where adults alike can come who are looking for a coffee shop, to hang out.

“We wanted to give the kids a safe, fun hangout space and provide them something to do,” said Schludermann.

Every Friday, they host a free community movie night. Snacks are available for purchase. The movie choices are always family-friendly, and all are welcome. If the school is closed for an in-service, they also try to run a matinee.

To find out which movies play each week, visit Ruby’s Paradise’s Facebook page, the general store or Winnipeg Beach School. As the Christmas season starts approaching, the movies will be Christmas classics.

Schludermann said the free movie nights give people in other communities a chance to drive safely, as it mitigates night driving for out-of-town folk who don’t enjoy it with deer season and icy roads.

The new indoor event centre offers affordable prices for cheap kid fun or an in-budget family night out.

The arcade games take quarters or loonies, all costing anywhere from $.25 to $1. The family-friendly pool tables are $2 a play, and the mini golf is $6 for those 12 and under and $8 for 13 and over, with a special family rate of $26 for a family of four.

Schludermann said her goal in opening the Boardwalk Station with various activities and programming is to have happier kids in the community.

With many fun activities for kids, the Boardwalk Station is the perfect spot to house a birthday party. The Station offers custom birthday packages from complete decorations and cake to just a pot to come and play and have some fun.

Soon, soup and sandwiches will be available at the coffee shop for the winter months.
